- ‘Mutiny Media’ at No Vacancy gallery, 27-33 Red Cape Lane. 6-8pm. Get in early for the free beer if there is any… but it gets a yes anyway. Indonesian billboard artists interpret film marketing graphics from all over the world onto canvas banners. This hand-painted practice is rapidly being phased out as digitally printing these large advertising banners is now a cheaper option. Hollywood has been reframed, mashed up and reconstructed for an Asian audience
- Seventh gallery 155 gertrude st, 6-8pm. Should be a no, due to the yes-ness of other openings it is trying to compete with..It is near Food not Bombs 4 Bums though. GALLERY 1: Skulls! Adam Pyett GALLERY 2: Nude Golf Swing Benjamin Rowett PROJECT SPACE: Matthew Shannon
- RMIT’s first site gallery on swanston st. 5:30 -7:30pm. Always a yes with the way they ‘cater’ for audience members. Was going to attach some of the art blurb wank, but it got so yawn-worthy and bored i couldn’t bear to read it. Here’s a cut n paste…Unseen LandsCollette Dan Gallery One Unseen Lands explores the gap between concept and reality. Referencing aerial photography, tiny artworks are realised, painted with minute detail and obsession, hinting at the landscape, whilst remaining ambiguous. Vast worlds are created within the combination of patternds, forms and textures. The paintings depicting an abstraction of reality, places that do not or could not exist, becoming as much about deception as they are about truthfulness. Time LineNorhaslind Nordin Gallery Two My work based on social comments about the impermanence of life, temporariness and the life cycle in the process of daily living. Most of us feel that life in this world will last forever. This idea is most evident among some individuals who still refuse to accept the reality that they will be faced with. We must accept reality as it is and that the process of change from young to old, life to death, bloom to die is part of life. But what is encouraged is to make the best of these changing processes in order to make life more meaningful and comfortable. Energies in MovementLi Ying Hong Gallery Three The body’s movements are represented through its energies. The human body shape is graceful when it engaged in sports, especially dance. Dance, as a kind of sport, evokes senses of positive or negative energies. I wish to use paintings to convey my sense of dancers’ movements and energies. Layers of strong colours on to paper, cut-outs with specific shapes applied to the surface, both are feasible ways to achieve my aims.
